About our client
This family in Naperville was hoping to enhance their primary suite to give them a space for relaxation in their forever home.
Goals
The clients wanted to complete an addition that would give them space for a large bathroom. They needed ample storage space in the closet and hoped for a large bedroom to relax in. With work from jobs added to their lifestyle they’d also love to find space for a small office/den.
Challenges
The existing second floor was built over the first floor only. We were challenged with extending the second floor over the garage to accommodate the space we needed for the addition.
Solution with results that paid off
After consulting with the clients and assessing their needs, our design team came up with a plan to extend the second floor to create an enlarged primary suite.
To create a large open bedroom we extended this portion to the new addition to allow for a large space. We proposed vaulting the ceiling in the bedroom for an added volume feel. We set the addition back from the existing home to create dimension on the front of the home and this allowed us to keep a small portion of the existing roof line to give the appearance that the home was always built this way.
We were able to incorporate a large primary bathroom suite in the previous master bedroom that gave us plenty of space to incorporate the clients needs. We proposed a large glass wet room that would house both a soaking tub and a shower with multiple water sources. We kept a separate water closet near the reconfigured HVAC space and was able to incorporate a his and hers vanity that accented the clients style.
To create a large enough closet for two we configured the space to put the closet towards the front of the home. This enabled us to fit additional storage closets for linens and other items in the opposing hallway of the new bathroom suite. Lastly, we configured a small den with access to the primary bedroom and views of the front room.
This primary suite addition was the perfect answer for a family wanting to make their forever home better suit their needs. With a new den in the space, they added more to their home value and are able to work from home with ease.
